La Flow Vélo, an interconnected cycle route

3 cycle routes linked to La Flow Vélo

La Flow Vélo is a cycle route connecting Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne to the east, to l’Île d’Aix, an island just off the French mainland in Charente-Maritime. Along this 400km cycle route, there are links to two European-wide cycle route – La Vélodyssée and the Scandibérique-EuroVelo 3. In fact, these two routes each share a stretch of the same paths as La Flow Vélo for a good number of kilometres.

A good number of local cycling circuits (boucles) enable cyclists to explore local areas by bike in more depth, such as La Roue Blanche or Les Rives de Boutonne.

La Vélodyssée – EuroVelo 1

The Vélodyssée cycle route in France goes from the port of Roscoff in northern Brittany to Hendaye in the Pays Basque, on France’s southwestern border with Spain. Covering 1,300km, following the French Atlantic coast, along its route, cyclists can enjoy plenty of discoveries along with plenty of sea air! Crossing the coastal département, or French county, of Charente-Maritime, cyclists on La Flow Vélo can share 163km with the Vélodyssée cycle route; the link between the two is possible at the river port of Rochefort.

La Scandibérique – EuroVelo 3

The Scandibérique is, at time of writing, the longest cycle route in France, extending an impressive 1,700km. It leads cyclists diagonally across the country, from the town of Maubeuge (Nord, on the Belgian border) to Roncevaux (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, on the Spanish border). Among notable sections are those through the Loire with its châteaux, the Bordeaux vineyards and the mountains of the Basque Country. The Scandibérique is a cycle route that leads you a long way, and a long distance from the everyday… to enable you to rediscover yourself, whether cycling alone or with others! There are 195km of shared cycle route with the Scandibérique and La Flow Vélo through the Charentes area, a good stretch. The links between the two cycle routes are at Angoulême and Confolens.

La Roue Blanche

This Charente-Maritime cycle trail covers 77km in total and shares the way with La Flow Vélo cycle route between the municipalities of Port d’Envaux and Saint-Hippolyte. A local cycling circuit, it encourages inquisitive cyclists to explore the heart of Saintonge Romane, an area rich in medieval monuments. Leading you from churches and abbeys to châteaux, this trail offers plenty of colour and surprises.

Les Rives de Boutonnes

This local Charente-Maritime cycle trail is linked to La Flow Vélo cycle route at the level of Cabariot. In total, it offers 123km of cycle paths to ride along, guiding you via the tranquil banks and marshlands of the Boutonnes River.
