Grotte de Villars
Description
It is the largest underground network in the Périgord. More than 13 km were explored to date. Rainwater percolation created a beautiful natural scenery. You will admire impressive flows of calcite deposits, delicate stalactites, transparent draperies and countless stalagmites. Prehistoric paintings were discovered. Made more than 19,000 years ago, they represent the authentic testimony of our ancestors’ art. Some of them, such as the rotunda of horses, are covered with a thin layer of calcite which gives them their particular bluish hue. You will admire as well the bison and sorcerer scene, one of the rare human representations in prehistoric art. You will enjoy outside a new discovery footpath about fauna, flora and climates from Prehistory until the Present.Localisation
