What physical preparation do you need for La Flow Vélo?
The Flow Vélo crosses 3 départements (Dordogne, Charente and Charente-Maritime) over its 400 kilometers. On the whole, it's not a difficult route. Most of the stages are relatively easy, apart from a few passages in Charente and Périgord Vert. It's a cycling route that doesn't require any major physical preparation, apart from the stretches along the Dordogne.
Physical preparation for La Flow Vélo will depend mainly on the daily distance you wish to cover and your current level of fitness.
Preparation adapted to your physical condition
Your physical preparation will depend on your objectives and your current level of fitness. An experienced cyclist won't need any specific preparation to cover the 350 kilometers of La Flow Vélo. However, if your objective is to cycle from Sarlat-la-Canéda to Île d'Aix, and you're not very athletic, you'll need to do some training beforehand.
For this preparation, it's advisable to do one or two bike rides a week, increasing the distance as you go along. There's no point in trying to go faster. Concentrate on the distances you cover. Your average speed will naturally increase as your training progresses.
Alternating between cycling and running (or walking) is also a good alternative.
Listen to your body to avoid injury
Be careful not to overdo it and risk injury. Listen to your body to enjoy yourself and avoid muscular problems. There's nothing worse than having to stop your physical preparation because of muscular discomfort.
