Sporting activities beyond cycling along La Flow Vélo

Give cycling a break and broaden your adventure!

La Flow Vélo is a cycle route that also incites cyclists to try out a whole host of further sporting activities close to the route. If you’re up for taking short breaks on your cycling trip or day out by bike, there are all manner of possibilities to entertain you, such as canoeing along the Charente River, or exploring the Charentais coastline by kayak, tackling a tree-top assault course, or pedalling along a railway line! These activities should delight and amuse the whole family or your group of friends.

Pedal train through the Périgord Vert

Did you know that it’s possible to pedal along on an old railway line? Now that you know, why not give it a go? The Vélorail du Périgord Vert proposes several possibilities for outings from Corgnac-sur-l'Isle to either Thiviers or Saint Andrieux. The length of a trip varies between 11km and 14km and doesn’t require great physical fitness. It’s a really lovely activity via which to explore parts of the Périgord Vert area as a family or among friends.

Périgord Vert Aventures

What about climbing on high to make the most of views over the beautiful Périgord Vert area? Then head to Périgord Vert Aventures, beside a lake, the Étang des Nouailles. Here, you’ll find tree-top assault courses suitable for all levels. In fact, there are seven different trails, catering to different tastes and ages.

Discover the comics city of Angoulême in a kayak!

If you like the idea of a refreshing time out on the water, getting very close to the Charente River, head for the Angoulême Canoë Kayak Club. In your kayak, explore the river at your own speed, enjoying the town at a different pace. Of course, if you’re ultra-sporty and prefer to race along like an Olympian (Tony Estanguet from southwest France, canoeing gold-medal winner at the Paris 2024 Olympics comes to mind), then you can! Take in the extraordinary landscapes beside the river, as they’re very much worth it.

Explore the Charente Maritime coast by kayak

La Flow Vélo, at its western extremity, can encourage you to reach as far as the iconic TV-game-show-famed Fort Boyard off the Charente Maritime coast… by paddling, if you’re up for the challenge! Antioche Kayak puts on kayak outings lasting from 2hrs to 6hrs to explore the Charentais coastline. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you depart from the port of Fouras to reach either Aix Island, Oléron Island, or then Fort Boyard. It all makes for a fascinating, unforgettable way of starting or ending your adventures along La Flow Vélo cycle route!
